Overview

Step into the world of Gothic architecture and painterly light on this day trip from Paris, where medieval meets Impressionism. Your driver will first take you to Rouen, the Norman capital, where the cathedral stands as a major example of Gothic design. With its cast‑iron spire reaching 151 m, detailed portal carvings, and the “Butter Tower,” it reflects centuries of construction, destruction, and restoration—highlighting its impact on Monet and role in regional identity. You'll also see the Gros-Horloge, a 14th‑century astronomical clock under a Renaissance arch, marking Rouen’s civic legacy.

Next, travel into the Normandy countryside to Giverny, where Claude Monet shaped his home and gardens as a living canvas. At his house, walk through flowerbeds, cross the Japanese bridge, and stand by the water-lily pond that helped define Impressionism. From cathedral stone to Monet’s light, this trip follows a path from monument to personal vision. Return to Paris with your private driver.

What to expect

  1. Rouen
    2h
Rouen, the historic capital of Normandy, is a city steeped in medieval charm and dramatic history. Its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and soaring Gothic churches—most notably the Cathedral of Notre-Dame painted by Monet—tell of a city once at the heart of commerce, conflict, and culture. Walk through the old town where Joan of Arc was tried and executed, and admire the Gros-Horloge, an ornate 14th-century astronomical clock. Rouen’s blend of heritage, art, and riverside atmosphere makes it a rewarding stop for independent exploration.
  2. Giverny
    2h
Giverny is a tranquil village in Normandy best known as the home of Claude Monet, the father of Impressionism. Visitors can explore the artist’s former residence and the iconic gardens he designed, including the Japanese bridge and water lily pond that inspired his most famous works. Beyond Monet’s estate, Giverny offers quiet lanes, stone houses, and views of the Seine Valley, creating a peaceful setting that continues to enchant art lovers and nature enthusiasts alike.
