Lunugamvehera National Park in Sri Lanka was declared in 1995, with the intention of protecting the catchment area of the Lunugamvehera reservoir and wildlife of the area. The national park is an important habitat for water birds and elephants.
The catchment area is vital to maintain the water levels of the five tanks in the downstream of Kirindi Oya and wetland characteristics of Bundala National Park. This national park also serves as a corridor for elephants to migrate between Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park.
There are two entrances to the National Park. When we enter from the Weharagala entrance, there is a higher chance to encounter elusive Sri Lankan leopards and also more animals. Due to this we enter to the Lungamwehera National Park from the Weheragala entrance.
Come to the Debarawewa Junction in Tissamaharama. There is a clock tower in the junction. From there come about 50 meters towards Tissamaharama. Just before the government hospital, (adjacent to it) you will see the Ajith Safari Jeep Tours office.

Our driver/s will pick you up from the hotels in and around the Tissamaharama/ Kataragama/ Kirinda/ Weerawila/ Palatupana/ Bundala Junction/ Weligatta/ Yodha Kandiya area. The pickup times will be (Morning Safari – 4.30 a.m./ Afternoon Safari - 1.30 p.m.). The time will be slightly adjusted depending on the location of your hotel and the locations of other guests' hotels who are going to SHARE the safari with you.
Sometimes, management of the hotels assign a location within the hotel premises other than the lobby area, for guests to be picked up by the drivers. Please communicate beforehand with the hotel staff and get to know the location, if not, the driver and you will be waiting for each other in two different locations. Be at the specific place on time and you will meet our driver.
If you are travelling from a city outside our pick-up area to join the safari, come to the Ajith Safari Jeep Tours office at 5.00 a.m.
