What to expect

This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a Mumbai local, Abhinanda and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Abhinanda is passionate about Bengali cuisine and is the host of food events and TV shows! Abhinanda warmly welcomes you into her home with a drink. After discussing the menu for the day, join her on a trip to the local market. Abhinanda will introduce you to a wide variety of local and seasonal fruits and vegetables and purchase a few ingredients for your meal.

Return to Abhinanda's home where you will begin your hands-on cooking class. During your 1.5 hour cooking class, learn to cook a Bengali meal from scratch. You will learn to make 2-3 dishes such as maach paturi, fish steamed in banana leaves, aloo poshto, potatoes cooked in a lightly spiced poppy seed paste, and luchi, deep fried flatbread. After cooking, share the meal you helped prepare over laughter and conversation with your host. Your meal might include other dishes Abhinanda has prepared in advance and concludes with a traditional Bengali dessert such as bhapa doi, steamed, sweetened yogurt accented by saffron or cardamom and chai or coffee upon request.
