Next, we’ll make our way to the Elephant Trunk Hill, which stands as a spiritual emblem of Guilin rather than just a scenic landmark. Local legend tells that the hill was once a celestial elephant sent down to earth to rescue the people from devastating floods. After a fierce three-day battle with imperial soldiers who tried to capture it, the wounded elephant was struck down while drinking from the Li River and instantly turned into stone, forever watching over the city. The best angle to capture its iconic trunk-like shape is from the No. 1 viewing platform.
