Overview

Embark on a fully supported teahouse-based trek to the sacred lakes of Gosainkund, situated in the Helambu region, just a day's drive away from Kathmandu. This relatively isolated region is predominantly inhabited by the Tamangs and Helambu Sherpas, who originated in Tibet. A highlight of the trek is a visit to Kyanjin Gompa, a Buddhist monastery located in a spectacular sub-alpine setting at 3800m. Traverse several passes that offer impressive views en route to the sacred lakes of Gosainkund. The trek presents brilliant views of the mighty Langtang (7234m) and Ganesh (7446m) peaks and a sprawl of endless summits over 6000m. Experience authentic cultural interaction in a less-traveled region of the Himalayas while marveling at stunning views and high-altitude lakes.

You will have the remainder of the afternoon to relax and acclimate to the surroundings. At around 4:30-5:00pm, there will be a pre-trek briefing where our team will review the itinerary and arrangements will be made to check your trekking equipment. This is an important opportunity for you to clarify any questions or concerns you may have about the trek, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Day 2: Drive to Syabrubesi - approx 7-8hrs
  1. 8h · Admission ticket included
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we will begin our journey to the trailhead at Syabrubesi by vehicle. The drive is lengthy, taking approximately 7 to 8 hours with several breaks along the way. The route includes a crossing of the Bhote Kosi river, and the scenery along the way is stunning, offering glimpses of alpine terrain, flat meadows, and rhododendron forests. The region is a haven for wildlife, with bears, leopards, red pandas, and musk deer frequently spotted. During the months of March and April, the Rhododendron forests are particularly noteworthy, as they burst into full bloom, boasting many different species of trees, birds, and butterflies.
Day 3: To Lama Hotel (2470m). Walk approx 7 hrs
  1. 6h · Admission ticket included
After breakfast, we will embark on our trek towards the village of Lama Hotel, which will take approximately 6-7 hours. The trail meanders through the lush forest, occasionally following the river's course. On the southern bank, we'll be surrounded by the cool shade of towering pines while on the northern bank, the forest thins out to reveal sparser vegetation consisting mostly of scrub oaks and nettles. The ascent to Lama Hotel is steep, and we will have climbed over 1000m by the time we reach our destination.
Day 4: To Langtang (3420m). Walk approx 5 hrs
  1. Langtang Valley Trek
    6h
Continuing our trek, we make our way up along the Langtang Khola, through dense forests of hemlocks, oaks, maples, and rhododendrons, until we reach the national park checkpoint at Ghora Tabela (2970m). The stunning view of Langtang Lirung (7225m) can be seen from this point. We continue our ascent gradually as the valley widens, passing by several Tamang villages, mani stones, and water-driven prayer wheels, until we finally reach Langtang village.
Day 5: To Kyanjin Gompa (3780m). Walk approx 3 hrs
  1. 6h
As we leave Langtang village behind, we make a gradual climb through the yak pastures and the quaint villages of Mumdu and Sindum. Crossing a wooden cantilever bridge over Langtang Khola, we reach a wider valley scattered with large boulders leading to a moraine. This is where we first catch sight of Kyanjin Gompa and the spectacular icefall flowing from Langtang Lirung and Langtang Kinshung (6781m) to the north. Our path navigates through these boulders before a brief descent to Kyanjin Gompa.
Day 6: Rest day at Kyanjin Gompa

After passing the school and army post, we ascend a steep hill above the village to Dursagang. From there, the trail becomes less steep and winds its way through the forest to the top of the ridge at Fhulung Danda. Along the way, we may come across the occasional shepherd hut, but the area is mostly uninhabited. As we cross the head of the valley, the trail levels out and we eventually reach Sing Gompa, passing through dense forest and enjoying the natural beauty of the region.
Day 10: To Gosainkund (4100m). Walk approx 5 hrs
  1. 6h
We climb steeply up the ridge, with dramatic views of Himal Chuli and Manaslu as our backdrop. The area is a sanctuary for the endangered red panda. After passing a few huts in the high pasture of Laurebina, we cross a ridge for our first view of the holy lakes of Gosainkund. Legend has it that Shiva created the lake by piercing a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after consuming poison. There are stone shelters at Gosiankund used by pilgrims who visit to worship and bathe during the full-moon festival each August.
