Overview

Visit chimpanzees and do mountain climbing all in two days and get a life time experience.

Chimpanzee
The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established with an agreement between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute. The aim – to provide lifelong refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees from West and Central Africa. Many are confiscated from cramped and unnatural living conditions, and many arrive with horrific injuries sustained from abuse at the hands of humans. Here at Sweetwaters, they get a chance to start over.

MOUNT KENYA

Climbing to 5,199 meters, is the second tallest mountain in Africa. The scenery surrounding this designated World Heritage Site is breath-taking. It is pristine wilderness with lakes, tarns, glaciers, dense forest, mineral springs and a selection of rare and endangered species of animals, high altitude adapted plains game and unique montane and alpine vegetation.

What to expect

Day 1: Nairobi to Ol pejeta Conservancy.
  1. Equator Marker

    This is an imaginary line that divides the earth into 2 hemispheres: north and south. There is a big sign where you will be able to take a photo saying you are now crossing the equator then proceed with the journey and arrive in time for lunch.
  2. 3h · Admission ticket included
    Pick up from your hotel at 6 a.m. and drive to Nanyuki where you will stop and take a photo at the iconic equator crossing point. You will proceed to the Olpejeta National Park
    and head to the Chimpazee sanctuary.
    Here a local guide will take us for a guided walk as you go up close and candid to the chimps. if you are lucky you will be able to feed them together with the caretaker guides.
    2 pm - 4 pm . more game drives and visit to Baraka - a blind rhino that has been given an enclosure.
    In the afternoon game drives we will come across the three rare northern white rhinos.
    4 pm to 5 pm.
    Depart olpajeta and Head to mount Kenya, Your driver will drive you to old moses camp where you will spend the night.
    The next day you start early in the morning a hike to the first peak/ view point and have lunch there with your guide.
    You will then descend the mountain to the gate to arrive around 3 pm
    here you start your 2 hours drive back to Nairobi.

    12 pm head to the Serena Sweetwaters lodge for lunch. Here you will get so close to the animals coming to the watering hole for water in front of the lodge.
  4. Mount Kenya National Park

    Depart and head to Nanyuki town to meet your mountain guide
    5 pm start of drive to the gate , arrive by 6 pm and head to the first climbing camp called OLD MOSES camp
    Here you will retire for dinner and sleep. very good for acclimatization
Day 2: Depart for Nairobi

    Early morning departure for hiking further up the mountain.
    climb upto the view point.
    Have picnic lunch here
    start coming down to arrive at first camp by 3 pm. board the awaiting car and start of drive to NAIROBI to arrive around 6 pm
