The 4-Step Journey
1. Local Stroll & Supermarket Safari (30 min)
Meet at a local station and stroll through a quiet residential neighborhood before exploring a local Japanese grocery store with your host. Discover the everyday ingredients used in Japanese home cooking and see what local families actually buy.
2. Choose Your Dishes & Cook Together (90 min)
Choose your favorite Japanese comfort foods from about 20 options and cook them together in your host's home kitchen. Discover space-saving tools and everyday cooking techniques used in Japanese homes. Choose dishes you would love to try in Japan.
3. Share a Homemade Meal & Discover Everyday Japan (60 min)
Enjoy the homemade meal you prepared together. Relax, chat with your host, ask questions, and discover Japanese food, dining customs, everyday habits, and traditions. Enjoy a relaxed conversation around the table, just like a guest in a Japanese home.
4. A Final Japanese Cultural Moment (30 min)
End your Homestay with a traditional Japanese cultural activity. Depending on your host, you may try origami, calligraphy, kimono or yukata, or a Matcha tea experience. Each host offers a different way to experience Japanese culture.
