What to expect

Day 1: Zanzibar to Mikumi – Ferry, Train and a Maasai Village Visit

    Your safari begins early on the water. You board the 7:00 AM ferry from Zanzibar and arrive in Dar es Salaam by 8:30, with the whole day still ahead of you. From the port, it is only a short transfer to the railway station, where you catch the 9:30 AM high-speed train to Morogoro. Many guests tell us this train ride is one of their favorite parts of the trip. The route passes through open countryside and small villages, and the journey to Morogoro takes just over an hour and a half, arriving at 11:10 AM.

    From Morogoro, your driver takes you onward to Mikumi, reaching the park area in the early afternoon. Lunch is served at your hotel, giving you time to relax and freshen up before the afternoon activity, a cultural visit to a nearby Maasai community. Here you will walk through the village, meet local families, and learn how Maasai traditions have been kept alive from generation to generation.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive Safari in Mikumi National Park

    The day starts early, around 6:00 AM, when wildlife is most active, and the light over the plains is at its best. This is your full day inside Mikumi National Park, home to lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and many more. Your guide knows where the animals move at different times of day, so the morning is spent covering the richest game-viewing areas while the predators are still out.

    Lunch is enjoyed inside the park, followed by a short break before the safari continues. The afternoon hours are the best time to find hippos and crocodiles basking in the sun near the water. As the light softens, you enjoy a calm evening game drive before leaving the park and driving to Morogoro, where dinner and a comfortable overnight stay await you.
Day 3: Return to Zanzibar

    After breakfast, you head to Morogoro station for the 9:00 AM train back to Dar es Salaam, a relaxed ride to end the trip. On arrival, your driver transfers you to the ferry terminal, where you board the boat back to Zanzibar, closing out an unforgettable Tanzanian safari experience with memories of the wild to take home.

We will pick you up at your hotel reception in Zanzibar in the morning, ready to head to the ferry for Dar es Salaam. We then travel together to Dar es Salaam and continue the journey as planned. After the trip, we drop you back at your hotel in Zanzibar.
