Overview

A Six Hour Tour
Begin at Kathmandu Durbar Square, the ancient seat of Nepal's kings, where pagoda temples rise around a royal palace and you may catch a glimpse of the Living Goddess Kumari watching from her window-a tradition found nowhere else on the planet.

Climb the hill to Swayambhunath, the "Monkey Temple," where the all-seeing eyes of Buddha gaze out over the entire Kathmandu Valley and prayer flags ripple in the wind above resident troops of monkeys.

Walk the sacred circle around Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world and the spiritual heart of Nepal's Tibetan community. Watch monks paint intricate thangka scrolls by hand, and feel the resonant hum of a singing bowl as its sound washes over you.

End at Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal's most sacred Hindu shrine on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Here, life and death meet in plain view -witness ancient Hindu cremation rituals performed exactly as they have been for centuries, and meet the wandering sadhus.
