Overview

Every Tuesday and Friday, a local guide takes a shared group of up to 15 on foot into Khao Sok National Park. Our van collects you from your hotel at about 08:30, and the walking begins at the park gate around 09:30. The route runs 3 km out beside the river, through humid forest, over roots and across the water more than once, to a simple hut standing next to a waterfall. Lunch is cooked right there on an open fire, inside sections of bamboo: plain trail food rather than a sit-down meal. Wild elephants and monkeys share this forest, though spotting either depends on luck. After lunch and a rest you walk the same 3 km back, then trade the trail for an inner tube and a life jacket and let the Sok River current take you on the last leg. It suits active people with moderate fitness who don't mind sweating and getting soaked.

    Khao Sok's rainforest is one of the oldest on Earth, and the point of this day is the walk itself: three kilometres in along the river, with waterfalls and river crossings on the trail, to a hut hidden in the forest beside a waterfall that can only be reached on foot. Lunch is cooked there over fire in lengths of bamboo. Then three kilometres back out. There are wild elephants and monkeys in this forest; whether you see them is luck. Your park entrance fee (340 THB per adult, 170 THB per child) is included in the price - there is nothing to pay at the gate.

    The day ends with tubing on the Sok River by Khlong Sok village: floating at whatever speed the water decides, canopy sliding past overhead. Life jackets and tubes are provided. If the river is unsafe the tubing is changed or dropped and you are told in advance.

Pickup details

We collect you around 08:30 from any accommodation on the Khao Sok side (Khlong Sok village and the park entrance road) or the Cheowlan side (Ban Ta Khun, the village beside the dam), to be at the park gate for 09:30. Give your hotel name at booking; the exact pickup time is confirmed the day before.

  • You will get wet. Wear shoes that can go in water and bring a full set of dry clothes, insect repellent and sunscreen
  • Minimum age 5. Anyone under 18 must come with an adult. Think carefully before bringing young children, as the full distance in the heat is hard going for them
  • Runs on Tuesdays and Fridays, rain or shine. If river conditions make tubing unsafe, that part is changed or skipped and we tell you beforehand; in that case you may cancel for a full refund instead of joining
  • Shared group on a fixed schedule: each booking needs at least 2 guests; each departure takes a maximum of 15. Elephants and monkeys live in the park, but sightings depend on luck
