Overview

Set in a historic Shanghai villa with a private Chinese-style garden, this experience combines Chinese tea culture with traditional calligraphy in an intimate setting. Guests enjoy a guided tea tasting, learn about Chinese tea traditions, and receive a personalized Chinese name based on the sound or meaning of their original name. They will then practice writing their new Chinese name in calligraphy with guidance from an experienced instructor, creating a meaningful keepsake and a more personal connection to Chinese culture.

What to expect

Guests will begin with a Chinese tea culture experience, learning about different types of Chinese tea, traditional tea utensils, brewing methods, and tasting etiquette. Guided by a professional tea instructor, guests will taste selected Chinese teas and learn how tea is connected to Chinese daily life, hospitality, and culture.

Guests will then take part in a traditional Chinese calligraphy experience. With guidance from an experienced instructor, they will learn about Chinese characters, brush techniques, and the basics of calligraphy. The instructor will also help each guest create a personalized Chinese name based on the sound or meaning of their original name, and guests will practice writing their new Chinese name in calligraphy.

Guests can take their handwritten Chinese name home as a personal keepsake.
