Dreaming of visiting Zermatt and the famous Matterhorn without the stress of planning trains and connections? This private day trip from Montreux is for you!

Your local guide, Manuela, will be by your side throughout the day, helping with connections and sharing stories about Swiss history, culture and traditions. Enjoy a scenic train journey before exploring Zermatt’s car-free streets, historic wooden chalets and the story of the Matterhorn’s first ascent.

Unlike trips where you’re left to explore alone, enjoy a guided village walk, time for lunch and the flexibility to adapt the day to your interests. Choose an optional Gornergrat railway ride when operating. Visit the Matterhorn Museum when open; on closing days, we’ll spend more time exploring Zermatt.

Please note: Return Montreux-Zermatt train tickets, Gornergrat tickets and lunch are not included. Comfortable walking shoes and warm layers are recommended, even in summer. Mountain views depend on the weather.

What to expect

  1. Visp
    Pass by
    You travel by train along Lake Geneva and up the Rhône valley to Visp, where you change to the mountain train that climbs to Zermatt. On the way, your host tells you how this valley lived before tourism arrived.
  2. Zermatt

    You walk with your host away from the busy main street into the old village, where wooden barns still stand on their stone plates. You hear the story of the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865, and you stop at the quiet viewpoints that most day visitors walk past, with time for photos.
  3. Gornergrat
    2h · Admission ticket not included
    In the afternoon you choose how high you want to go. You can ride the Gornergrat railway to 3,089 metres for a close view of the Matterhorn and the glaciers, or stay in the village with tips from your host. The Gornergrat ticket is paid on the spot, and a Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card gives you 50 percent off.
  4. Matterhorn Museum - Zermatlantis

    Discover the fascinating history of the Matterhorn and the first ascent of this iconic mountain. Museum admission is included when open. On closing days, the itinerary will be adjusted to allow more time to explore the charming village of Zermatt.
