Quinta da Regaleira is an enigmatic 20th-century estate situated near the historic centre of Sintra, celebrated for its striking Neo-Manueline architecture and sprawling, mystical gardens. Designed by Italian architect Luigi Manini for the wealthy owner António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, the estate is renowned for its labyrinthine network of underground tunnels, hidden grottoes, lakes, and esoteric symbolism linked to the Knights Templar and alchemy. Its most famous feature is the Initiation Well, a subterranean spiral staircase leading deep into the earth.
