Overview

The show blends Chinese poetry, opera, classical music, dance, and tea culture into a poetic portrait of Hangzhou.
What makes the performance truly different is the engineering hidden beneath the lake. The stage is an elevating platform that rests about 80 centimeters below the water during the day, allowing boats and the natural lake scene to remain undisturbed. At showtime, it rises to just 3 centimeters beneath the surface, so performers seem to stand and move on the water itself.
The production uses advanced holographic projection, artificial mist, laser lighting, and towering rain curtains that rise from the lake. A nationwide first-of-its-kind retractable rain shelter protects the audience while preserving the open-air experience. Each spectator also benefits from a personal surround-sound system, delivering clear audio without disturbing the tranquil lakeside environment.

    This is a single entry ticket for *Impression West Lake: Enduring Memories of Hangzhou*, the world‑famous outdoor water‑scene performance staged on West Lake’s Yuehu Lake.
    How Impression West Lake was born
    Impression West Lake came to life in 2007, masterminded by top‑tier director trio Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge and Fan Yue, known as the “Iron‑Triangle” of Chinese live‑action performance.
    Instead of building a traditional indoor theatre, they chose Yuehu Lake inside West Lake scenic spot as the natural stage. Real mountains, lake water and night sky become part of the performance backdrop. It draws inspiration from Hangzhou ancient folk tales, poems and local history.
    Later upgraded into *Enduring Memories of Hangzhou*, this show shined as the grand cultural gala for the 2016 G20 Hangzhou Summit, presenting Chinese beauty to world leaders. Dancers step on hidden underwater platforms, making audiences feel they are dancing freely on water surface.
