Piscina Natural da Faja do Ouvidor

Look down over one of São Jorge’s largest lava-formed fajãs and the dramatic north coast. Unlike many of the island’s fajãs created by landslides and cliff erosion, Fajã do Ouvidor was formed by basaltic lava flows descending from the central volcanic ridge. From the viewpoint, appreciate the contrast between the steep green cliffs, Atlantic Ocean and settlement below while learning how volcanic activity shaped this distinctive landscape.
Faja dos Cubres

Visit one of São Jorge’s most celebrated fajãs, set beneath the immense cliffs of the island’s north coast. See its distinctive coastal lagoon and learn how landslides, erosion and major earthquakes helped form and enlarge these fertile coastal platforms. Together with nearby Caldeira de Santo Cristo, this landscape contains the only coastal lagoon system in the Azores and is one of the island’s most important geological and ecological areas.
Parque Florestal das Sete Fontes

Explore a greener side of São Jorge at this extensive forest reserve near Rosais. Walk among dense vegetation, streams, springs and small lakes while discovering an environment very different from the island’s exposed volcanic coastline. The approximately 12-hectare park also includes walking paths and viewpoints, with panoramas that can extend toward neighboring Azorean islands when visibility is good.
