The workshop will be hosted at a small art gallery in Ginza, Tokyo. It is owned and operated by Akutsu-sensei, who will also be your instructor.
Akutsu-sensei is a graduate of Tama Art University and Tsukuba University's art department. After graduation, he has built an international career as an artist and designer. He also has experience teaching at an art school, and at his art class.
Tokyo Art Place Gallery opened in 2025 to share art with everyone. He believes that art is for the people, not just for industry professionals.
The workshop begins with a brief introduction into the history and concept of Nihonga. You will also get a crash course on Japanese mineral pigments (Iwa enogu), Painting tools (brush and scroll), and painting techniques.
You will choose an artwork to paint, and the master will give you step-by-step instructions on how to paint.
It is no problem if you are a beginner, the master has extensive experience with teaching students, including beginners, how to paint Nihonga.
We will place a sign announcing the workshop at the building entrance. Please use it as a guide to enter the building and come to Room 403 on the fourth floor.
