Overview

Escape the Park turns Gettysburg into a self-guided outdoor mystery played entirely on your phone. Choose one of three games. The Drummer Boy's Secret is a counting mission for junior agents across five monuments. The Turning Point rides the battle in the order it happened, from the woods west of town to the cemetery where Lincoln spoke, and seven engraved words each surrender a letter. The Unquiet Field uses Gettysburg's ghost stories as doors into documented history, from a historic covered bridge to Devil's Den and Little Round Top. Every answer is engraved on a permanent, publicly visible feature, so you have to be there to solve it. No guide, no reservation, no set start time. Drive between the stops, walk the last hundred yards, and take as long as you like.

What to expect

  1. Gettysburg National Cemetery
    20m
The soldiers' cemetery where Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address. Stops here appear in two of the three games - you read the inscriptions on the Soldiers' National Monument and the Lincoln Address Memorial and take a letter from each.
  2. Little Round Top
    15m
The rocky hill on the Union left, held on the second day. Two of the three games send you to the summit to read a regimental monument and take a letter from its inscription.
  3. Devils Den
    15m
The boulder maze at the foot of the Round Tops, and one of the most photographed places on the field. In The Unquiet Field you park here and walk in to read a monument among the rocks.
  4. Sachs Covered Bridge
    15m
The 1854 covered bridge over Marsh Creek, crossed by both armies in 1863 and the opening stop of The Unquiet Field. You read the date and the builder's marks on the timbers.
  5. Gettysburg National Military Park
    1h
The battlefield itself. Depending on the game you also stop at Oak Hill and the Eternal Light Peace Memorial, Seminary Ridge and the ground of Pickett's Charge, the Wheatfield, and the monuments along Hancock Avenue. All stops are free and publicly visible.
