Overview

Step into the fog of 1888 and become the detective London never had. This self-guided audio adventure turns the streets of Whitechapel into a living crime scene, where every landmark hides a clue to the East End's darkest mystery. Using augmented reality, your phone reveals hidden names and secret ciphers painted onto the very facades your suspects once walked past. No guide, no group, no fixed schedule — just you, your phone, and a trail of riddles to crack at your own pace, day or night. Genuine history meets immersive gameplay: uncover the true stories of the forgotten victims, decode the killer's taunts, and piece together the final secret. With cinematic narration in 32 languages and a GPS-guided map, it works instantly in any web browser — nothing to download. Perfect for curious travellers, families, and true-crime fans who want to feel Whitechapel's history, not just hear about it.

What to expect

  1. Whitechapel Gallery

  2. Jack the Ripper Museum
    15m
Stand before this Victorian terraced house dedicated to the 1888 murders. From the street, use the app's augmented reality to decode a clue tied to the first of the "canonical five" victims — no entry required.
  3. Wilton's Music Hall
    15m
The world's oldest surviving grand music hall, where Victorian crowds laughed while terror gripped the streets outside. Scan the historic facade in augmented reality to reveal the next name in the Ripper's trail.
  4. Whitechapel Bell Foundry
    15m
Britain's oldest manufacturing company, birthplace of Big Ben and the Liberty Bell. Use the app's augmented reality on its Georgian facade to uncover another victim's name and edge closer to the truth.
  5. Christ Church Spitalfields
    15m
Nicholas Hawksmoor's towering Baroque masterpiece, a silent witness to the murders below. Point your phone at the spire and portico to trigger an augmented-reality reveal in the heart of the investigation.
  6. Old Spitalfields Market
    15m
A bustling market since 1638, its shadowed lanes once gave cover to the killer. Scan the historic ironwork in augmented reality to uncover a victim history nearly forgot.
  7. Brick Lane
    15m
The finale of your hunt, on the vibrant street at the crossroads of London's immigrant history. Use augmented reality one last time to reveal the final name and piece together the code that ends the mystery.
