Overview

Just outside Brașov stand two of the most remarkable fortified churches the Transylvanian Saxons ever built, and they are far quieter than the castles most visitors queue for. This private trip takes you to both: UNESCO-listed Prejmer, begun by the Teutonic Knights in 1218, where around 275 storage rooms are stacked inside walls up to 12 metres high, and Hărman, a church dating back to 1240 with seven defensive towers and the tallest bell tower in the Bârsa Land (56 m).     Walk the inner courtyard lined with around 275 storage rooms stacked on three and four levels, the defensive corridor inside walls up to 12 metres high, the old classroom and the small museum. Inside the church, see the mid-15th-century triptych altar, considered the oldest in Transylvania. Prejmer has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
  2. Fortified Church of Harman

    Climb the 56-metre bell tower, the tallest in the Bârsa Land, for views over the walls, the village and the Carpathian Mountains. Then explore the church with its Anatolian carpets and organ, the tower chapel with 15th-century murals, the defensive chambers and the rooms that show everyday Saxon village life.

Pickup details

I'll pick you up from your accommodation anywhere in Brașov. If it's inside the pedestrian old town, I'll meet you at the nearest point reachable by car (for Piața Sfatului: by the UniCredit Bank on the corner of the square). The day before the tour, I'll contact you via WhatsApp or phone to confirm the exact pickup spot and to share the vehicle details.
