Experience authentic Japanese home cooking in a private setting inside a traditional Kyoto machiya. This activity is completely private and designed exclusively for you and your group.
After meeting at the machiya, your instructor Toshiko will guide you step by step through making a classic Japanese bento. You will cook rice using Kyoto’s underground spring water and learn to prepare onigiri, dashimaki tamago, and seasonal side dishes.
This is a relaxed, hands-on experience where you can ask questions and learn at your own pace. The menu can be adjusted to match your interests or dietary needs whenever possible.
Once your bento is ready, take it to the nearby Kamo River for a peaceful picnic. After your meal, enjoy a simple and casual matcha tea experience.
If the weather is not suitable for an outdoor picnic, you can enjoy your bento comfortably inside the townhouse instead.
This is a private and personal experience. Adjustments for dietary restrictions or simple requests can be accommodated whenever possible.
This experience starts at a traditional machiya townhouse located in Shogoin Rengecho, Kyoto.
The exact address and detailed directions will be provided after booking.
Guests are welcome to come to the meeting point on their own using public transportation, taxi, or on foot.
