First built in 1272 and reconstructed multiple times, the two towers follow the tradition of "morning bells and evening drums": the 46.7-meter-high Drum Tower houses ancient drums that marked night watches, while the 47.9-meter-high Bell Tower contains China's largest and best-preserved ancient bronze bell weighing 63 tons, whose sound once spread over 20 kilometers. Today, as a key cultural relic and part of the UNESCO-listed Beijing Central Axis, they are open to visitors, who can enjoy panoramic views of the old city and watch traditional bell and drum performances, experiencing the unique historical charm of ancient Beijing.
