During this hands‑on cultural experience, you’ll be guided step‑by‑step by a local master potter to discover and practice the traditional craft of Horezu ceramics — a craft recognized by UNESCO for its heritage and skill.
Learn Traditional Pottery Techniques
You’ll start by learning key techniques of traditional Romanian pottery from an experienced local artisan. This includes understanding how clay is prepared and shaped using age‑old methods.
Shape Your Clay on the Wheel or by Hand
Under careful guidance, you’ll model the clay with your hands — and often on a pottery wheel — to create your own ceramic piece such as a bowl, cup or decorative object.
️ Texture and Decorate Your Piece
After shaping the clay, you’ll learn traditional Horezu decoration techniques — including textures and motifs inspired by local symbols such as spirals, roosters, vines and flowers, which are characteristic of this UNESCO craft.
Prepare for Firing
You’ll see how ceramics are prepared for firing — an essential step that turns your clay creation into solid pottery — and learn what happens in the kiln.
