Overview

A perfect blend of wine and wildlife awaits on this full-day Sip + Safari Adventure from Cape Town. This full-day escape combines two of the Cape's greatest highlights: the elegance of the Cape Winelands and the thrill of spotting wildlife in the wild.

Cape Town is a fantastic introduction to South Africa, but there's much more to discover beyond the city... Surrounded by spectacular arid vast plains, vine & mountainous scenery, this day escape tour pairs two bucket-list favourites: Winelands and wildlife. Begin at the Spice Route Destination near Paarl, where an Explorer Voucher lets you enjoy a choice of wine or gin tastings, craft beer, or delicious artisanal sweet and savoury treats.

Then head to Aquila Game Reserve, one of the closest safari destinations to Cape Town, for a golden-hour 4x4 safari in search of the Big Five and other native wildlife. Trade the city buzz for rolling vineyards, open landscapes and unforgettable wildlife encounters - just a few hours from Cape Town.

What to expect

Spice Route Destination
1h 30m · Admission ticket included

Start with a morning pick-up from Cape Town before heading into the Cape Winelands.

After a ±1hour scenic drive, arrive at Spice Route Destination - this historic farm dates back to 1693 and was originally named Leeuwenjagt. The heritage of Spice Route Destination is inspired by the historic mariners who traded Eastern spices to Europe along the legendary Spice Route during the 15th century. Here your included Taste Explorer Voucher unlocks a relaxed, self-guided tasting adventure. Designed especially for travellers with limited time, this experience offers a generous variety of tastings, including non-alcoholic options. Choose your own journey of 'tasting' discovery on arrival : Alcoholic tastings include wine, craft beer, spirits and perry cider, while non-alcoholic delights range from artisanal ice-cream, chocolate, charcuterie and vegetarian bites. Lunch at leisure for your own account at Spice Route, with a few local bistro-style restaurants.
3h · Admission ticket included

As the afternoon unfolds, travel inland to the Karoo and arrive at Aquila Game Reserve just in time for a memorable 2 to 3-hour sunset 4x4 safari led by an experienced ranger. Explore the 10,000-hectare conservancy between the Langeberg and Outeniqua Mountains, home to most of South Africa's iconic Big Five: elephant, lion, buffalo and rhino.* As the sun sets over the Karoo, wildlife becomes more active, creating excellent opportunities to spot animals and capture incredible photographs. Along the way, your ranger will share fascinating insights into the reserve's wildlife, conservation efforts and unique ecosystem. Aquila offers one of the Western Cape's most accessible safari experiences - perfect for travellers who don't have enough time to visit Kruger National Park or the Garden Route.

After your game drive, enjoy the scenic return journey to Cape Town, arriving in the city long after sunset (±9pm).

*Leopards are highly elusive and rarely seen, and lions kept in smaller camps.
