The Giza Pyramid Complex, also called the Giza Necropolis, is the site on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt that includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. All were built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The site also includes several cemeteries and the remains of a workers village. The site is at the edges of the Western Desert, approximately 9 kilometers (5.6 mi) west of the Nile River in the city of Giza, and about 13 kilometers (8 mi) southwest of the city center of Cairo
  2. Pyramid Complex of Khafre
    30m · Admission ticket included
The pyramid of Khafre or of Chephren is the middle of the three Ancient Egyptian Pyramids of Giza, the second tallest and second largest of the group. It is the only pyramid out of the three that still has cladding at the top. It is the tomb of the Fourth-Dynasty Pharaoh Khafre (Chefren), who ruled c. 2558−2532 BC
Like the Great Pyramid, a rock outcropping was used in the core. Due to the slope of the plateau, the northwest corner was cut 10 m (33 ft) out of the rock subsoil, and the southeast corner was built up.
The stones used at the bottom are very large, but as the pyramid rises, the stones become smaller, becoming only 50 cm (20 in) thick at the apex. The courses are rough and irregular for the first half of its height but a narrow band of regular masonry is clear in the midsection of the pyramid. At the northwest corner of the pyramid, the bedrock was fashioned into steps. Casing stones cover the top third of the pyramid, but the pyramidion and part of the apex are missing
  3. Pyramid of Menkaure
    30m · Admission ticket included
Menkaure's pyramid complex consists of a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king's pyramid. The valley temple once contained several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added on to the valley temple.
  4. Great Sphinx
    30m · Admission ticket included
The Great Sphinx is one of the most famous landmarks in Egypt and the world, located in Giza on the Giza Plateau near the pyramids. It is a massive statue depicting a mythical creature with a human head and a lion's body. It is believed that the Sphinx was built during the reign of Pharaoh Khafre in the Fourth Dynasty, around 2500 BCE. The statue was likely intended to guard the pyramid complex and symbolize power and wisdom. The Sphinx measures about 73.5 meters in length, 19.3 meters in width, and 20.22 meters in height. It is made of limestone and has suffered from weathering over the centuries. The Sphinx is considered a symbol of strength, protection, and wisdom. There are many legends about the Sphinx, including stories about the guardian statue that narrates the history of ancient Egypt. Over the centuries, the Sphinx has undergone various restoration efforts to preserve its condition and has faced significant erosion from weather and sand.
  5. Giza Plateau
    30m · Admission ticket included
