1. Igreja de Santa Maria Maior
   10m
Lisbon’s oldest church... and still standing (despite earthquakes, invasions, and crooked selfies).Built in the 12th century, the Sé is basically the grandma of Lisbon’s monuments. And like any Portuguese grandma, she’s got a lot of stories — from kings and crusades to spies and saints. From the outside, it looks like a medieval fortress (those twin towers are basically dragon-proof). Inside? Silence, stained glass, ancient relics — and a sacred, mysterious vibe. It’s the kind of place where time stops — and your echo reminds you of it.Hot tip: if it’s open, head up to the cloister — where Roman ruins and medieval walls meet in a quiet little “wow” moment, away from the crowds.

Down below? The Pantheon of the Braganza family, Portugal’s royal clan, has their final VIP resting spot here — basically the royal family’s exclusive underground lounge since the 17th century.

But the real treat? Head up to the rooftop terrace for one of Lisbon’s most underrated panoramic views. Endless red rooftops, the sparkling Tagus River, and a breeze that’s basically a free Lisbon makeover for your hair.
