Overview
Come hungry — this is lunch.
A four-hour walking food tour from the fishing docks to the historic heart of Viana do Castelo, guided personally by João. Born here and a former professional cook, he doesn't just show you where to eat — he tells you how each dish is made, and introduces you to the people behind the counters.
We start facing the ocean with something sweet, then walk the docks before the eating really begins: fresh shellfish at a working seafood shop, the best petiscos at a fishermen's tasco in the Ribeira, and two historic family bakeries for the sweet finish. Eight to ten tastings in total, paired with three regional wines including Vinho Verde — and the story of the city all the way through.
Small groups of eight maximum. Easy, flat walking — 1.5 km spread over four hours. You'll leave with a Google Maps list of João's own recommendations for the rest of your stay.
What's included
Water throughout the tour.
Three glasses of regional wine, including Vinho Verde. Non-alcoholic alternatives available at every stop, at no extra cost.

Our first proper tasting. Two to three kinds of fresh shellfish, straight off the counter at a working seafood shop, paired with a glass of local wine.

We walk into the Ribeira, the fishermen's quarter and the most important neighbourhood for local gastronomy — you'll learn how these people's lives are bound to the ocean. Then we sit down at a fishermen's tasco for the best sea petiscos, with a glass of wine or a cold fino. of the fishermen and the most important neighborhood for local gastronomy. Learn about the devotion of these people and how their lives are bound to the ocean in a deep sense. We will eat at a local fishermen’s “tasco”, tasting the best “petiscos”.
