8. Ceramica Viera
   1h
By the late 15th century, the Azorians used pieces of olaria made on the islands, with Hispanic-Mourian influence. An example of this was the red clay straw from the island of Santa Maria, which served as a water reservoir in the kitchens of Santa Maria and São Miguel.

In the Lagoa, there are memories of small olaries of red clay, similar to those existing on the island of Santa Maria and Vila Franca do Campo. This was even before the foundation of the first glass dish factory, created by Bernardino da Silva in 1862, in Porto dos Carneiros da Lagoa. This factory, named Cerâmica Vieira, is one of the few industrial and artistic heritage that has survived over five family generations. Its production continues to be artisanal and its decoration, in addition to the traditional drawings, is left to the free will of the craftsmen of the factory. Its dishes have a very characteristic decor, where the blue color predominates. They are commonly known as “LOUÇA DA LAGOA”.
