What to expect

  1. The Pyramids Of Giza
    2h 30m · Admission ticket included
    The Pyramids of Giza are one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites and the last surviving wonder of the ancient Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. They stand on the Giza Pyramid Complex, just outside Cairo.

    The three main pyramids

    * Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops) – The largest and oldest pyramid, originally about 146.6 m (481 ft) tall. Built around 2580–2560 BCE, it was the tallest human-made structure on Earth for nearly 4,000 years.
    * Pyramid of Khafre – Slightly smaller but appears taller because it sits on higher ground. Some of its original smooth limestone casing remains near the top.
    * Pyramid of Menkaure – The smallest of the three main pyramids, built for Pharaoh Menkaure.
  2. Great Sphinx
    30m · Admission ticket included
    The Great Sphinx

    Nearby is the Great Sphinx of Giza, a massive limestone statue with the body of a lion and the head of a king, believed to represent Pharaoh Khafre.

    How they were built

    Although the exact methods are still debated, archaeologists generally agree that:

    * Millions of limestone and granite blocks were transported and carefully placed.
    * Workers used ramps, sledges, ropes, and simple tools rather than modern machinery.
    * The pyramids were built by skilled laborers and craftsmen, not by enslaved people as was once commonly believed.

    Why they were built

    The pyramids served as royal tombs for pharaohs. Ancient Egyptians believed that preserving the king’s body and providing goods for the afterlife would help ensure a successful journey after death.
  3. Saqqara
    2h
    Saqqara is Egypt’s oldest and largest ancient necropolis, serving as the burial ground for the ancient capital of Memphis for more than 3,000 years. It lies about 30 km (19 miles) south of Cairo.
    Highlights of Saqqara
    * Step Pyramid of Djoser
    * Built around 2670 BCE for Pharaoh Djoser.
    * Designed by the architect Imhotep
    * Considered the world’s first large-scale stone building and the earliest pyramid in Egypt.
    * Serapeum of Saqqara
    * An underground complex where the sacred Apis bulls were buried.
    * Famous for its enormous granite sarcophagi, some weighing over 60 tons.
    Noble Tombs
    * Saqqara contains beautifully decorated tombs of officials and nobles, featuring colorful scenes of daily life, farming, hunting, and religious rituals.
    * Among the most famous are the tombs of Mereruka, Kagemni, and Ti.
    Why Saqqara is important
    * It marks the beginning of pyramid construction in ancient Egypt.
    * It preserves the evolution of Egyptian architecture from mastabas to true pyramids.
  4. Mit Rahina Museum
    30m · Admission ticket included
    The Memphis Museum, officially known as the Memphis Open-Air Museum, is located in Mit Rahina, about 25 km south of Cairo, on the site of the ancient capital of Egypt, Memphis.

    Highlights of the museum

    * Colossal Statue of Ramses II
    * A magnificent limestone statue of Pharaoh Ramses II, about 10 meters (33 feet) long.
    * Displayed indoors in a specially designed hall where visitors can view it from elevated walkways.
    * Alabaster Sphinx
    * One of the largest alabaster sphinxes ever discovered in Egypt.
    * Believed to date to the New Kingdom, possibly during the reign of Amenhotep II.
    * Open-Air Collection
    * Features statues, stelae, columns, and architectural remains from ancient Memphis.
    * Many artifacts come from temples dedicated to Ptah, the chief deity of Memphis.
