1. Boat Ride & Kayaking
Take a 1-2 hour boat ride on Lake Ruhondo. Explore hidden islands, spot birdlife, and glide past steep hillsides. Traditional canoes made from a single tree trunk are also available.
2. Bird Watching
The lakes are a RAMSAR site. Look for rare species like Rwenzori turaco, handsome francolin, kingfishers, African fish eagles, and crowned cranes.
3. Cultural Visits
Meet local communities, try traditional cow-milking, see fishing with handmade nets, and watch traditional music and dance. The Amahoro Cooperative shows how locals live off the lakes.
4. Hiking & Cycling
Walk guided nature trails to viewpoints overlooking both lakes. You can also rent a bike and cycle around the lakeshore and villages.
5. Fishing & Picnics
Join locals for game fishing using traditional methods. Roast your catch over a campfire by the shore and have a picnic on one of the islands.
