In this class, you won't just learn a traditional art form; you will practice mindfulness as you draw with hot wax and paint your own beautiful tote bag to take home. In this workshop, you'll get to create your own batik masterpiece tote bag, with guidance and support throughout the process. From selecting your design to applying traditional dyeing techniques, you'll enjoy a hands-on, creative experience in a relaxed, scenic environment. Whether you're a beginner or simply curious about batik, this workshop offers a unique, fun journey into Indonesian craftsmanship, leaving you with a meaningful souvenir and lasting memories from your trip.

What to expect

We will be seated around a table for 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on how fast things go with the process. We will begin with a demonstration of the skills involved, and then you will have a chance to do it yourself.

You will be guided step-by-step through the batik tote bag creation process:

1. Design Tracing – Choose your preferred design and carefully trace it onto your tote bag fabric
2. Wax Application (Canting) – Learn how to use a traditional canting tool to apply hot wax and outline your design
3. Coloring – Add vibrant colors to your tote bag, bringing your personal artwork to life
4. Lorod Process (Wax Removal) – Experience the satisfying final step as the wax is removed, revealing your finished batik tote bag
