After breakfast, Ghana’s Independence Day Celebration in Accra is
a lively national event held every 6th March at Black Star Square,
marking the country’s freedom in 1957. The day begins with a
colourful parade featuring the armed forces, schoolchildren, and
civic groups, all proudly displaying the national colours of red, gold,
and green. Patriotic songs, drumming, and brass bands fill the air as
the President delivers an address honouring Ghana’s journey to
independence. Fighter jets soar above, while traditional dancers
and performers showcase the nation’s rich cultural heritage. Across
Accra, streets buzz with music, food, and celebration as people
unite in pride and joy. In the evening, dazzling fireworks illuminate
Independence Arch and the Black Star Gate, closing the day with a
sense of unity, pride, and national spirit—celebrating Ghana as the
first sub-Saharan African nation to achieve independence.
