Checacupe, located just two hours from Cusco in the province of Canchis, is a hidden historical gem where Inca, Colonial, and Republican eras come together. This charming Andean town is best known for its three adjacent bridges—each representing a different period in Peru’s history—spanning the Vilcanota River and creating a truly unique landscape.

Among its highlights is the impressive colonial stone bridge, built with lime and stone and still in use today. Another must-see is the 17th-century Church of the Immaculate Conception, often called the “Sistine Chapel of America” for its remarkable murals and religious artwork.

Checacupe is an authentic cultural stop along the route to Rainbow Mountain, perfect for travelers looking to enrich their journey with living history, traditional architecture, and meaningful encounters with local communities dedicated to alpaca fiber craftsmanship.
