Step into The Kitchen in Lagos, put on your apron and experience the warmth, aromas and flavours of a Portuguese family kitchen. Guided by your instructor, you’ll prepare a three-course meal inspired by the family recipes of Avó Lurdes, grandmother of The Kitchen’s founder, Joana. Chop, stir, taste and cook while discovering the traditions behind Portuguese home cooking.
Start with Peixinhos da Horta, crispy Portuguese green bean fritters. From October to March, prepare Ervilhas com Chouriço e Ovos Escalfados, a comforting pea dish with chouriço and poached eggs — the kind of food Portuguese families cook at home, but rarely found on restaurant menus. From April to September, make Bacalhau à Brás, with salt cod, onions, eggs and crispy potatoes.
Then, follow Avó Lurdes’ original handwritten recipe to make her Chocolate Salami, a treasured piece of family history framed in our kitchen. As the aromas fill the room, gather around our shared table. Taste what you’ve created, accompanied by Portuguese wines carefully selected to pair beautifully with the dishes.
Cook, taste, share stories and experience Portuguese home cooking: simple food, generous tables and bringing people together.
