What to expect

  1. 30m
The tour will begin at a eatery where you can sample local breakfast. The sesame balls are golden and crispy—bite into one and the sweet red bean filling bursts on your tongue, bringing pure delight. The wontons feature thin wrappers and generous filling, with tender meat and flavorful broth that warms both body and soul. These traditional breakfast items carry generations of Beijing residents' memories and beautifully represent Old Beijing's food culture.
  2. Shijia Hutong
    25m
Shija Hutong stands as a living fossil of Old Beijing's hutong culture. Traditional siheyuan courtyards line both sides of the hutong, each like a sealed history book telling stories of the past. As you stroll through, you'll see elderly residents sunbathing and chatting by their doors while children play in the alleys, creating a leisurely and harmonious atmosphere of Old Beijing life. Here, you can experience the charm of traditional siheyuan architecture and feel the deep bonds among hutong residents.
  3. 15m
Dafangjia Hutong's Chaoyangmen Local Market reveals Old Beijing's most down-to-earth side. Here you can buy fresh produce and daily necessities. Most importantly, taste the jianbing (savory crepes) beloved by locals! What you'll experience is not just food, but the warmth and vitality of Old Beijing community life.
  4. Zhihua Temple
    40m · Admission ticket included
Zhihua Temple is hidden in Lumicang and offers a peaceful sanctuary amid the bustling city. This ancient temple showcases unique architecture, featuring exquisite Ming Dynasty murals and precious Buddhist artifacts. As you step through its gates, melodious chants and curling incense transport you away from the city's clamor into a tranquil atmosphere. The temple embodies profound Buddhist culture and serves as an important witness to Beijing's traditional heritage. If timing permits, we'll experience the unique Beijing temple music, known as a "living fossil of ancient Chinese music." This musical tradition blends imperial court, Buddhist, and folk elements, creating ethereal melodies that preserve Tang and Song Dynasty styles. Its dignified compositions feature grand structure and sophisticated performance techniques.
  5. Hutong Tour
    1h
Dongtangzi Hutong has been home to many notable figures, including modern historical luminaries Wu Lien-teh and Cai Yuanpei. Walking through the hutong, you can almost sense the presence of these distinguished residents who once lived and worked here. Though weathered by time, their former residences still emanate a rich cultural atmosphere, evoking the remarkable years past.
  6. Huguosi Hutong Snack Street
    20m
Huguosi Snacks represents the pinnacle of Beijing's traditional snack culture. From wandouhuang (mung bean cakes) to ludagun (glutinous rice rolls) and aiwowo (sweet rice cakes), each specialty snack showcases unique craftsmanship and historical heritage.
