Istanbul Private Tour: Skip Lines, Hidden Gems, Local Expert

1. Hippodrome
   45m · Admission ticket included
The Sultanahmet Hippodrome (known today as Sultanahmet Square) is the perfect spot for this, as it connects the Byzantine Empire's extreme political drama with monuments from across the ancient world.

The Hippodrome wasn't just a place for entertainment; it was the political and social heart of Constantinople for over 1,000 years.

"Stand in the same arena where over 100,000 spectators once gathered to watch the fiercest chariot races of the Byzantine Empire! This square was the Roman equivalent of the Colosseum and the political stage combined. Learn about the 'Blues' and 'Greens' rivalry that led to the devastating Nika Riots—a rebellion so huge it nearly overthrew Emperor Justinian and changed the course of world history!"
2. Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque
   1h 15m · Admission ticket not included
Behold one of the greatest engineering feats of the ancient world! Step inside Hagia Sophia, the 'Church of Holy Wisdom,' constructed in the 6th century AD. For over 1,000 years, its colossal dome was the largest unsupported dome in the world. We’ll show you how Emperor Justinian’s architects created the illusion that the dome is floating on a 'golden chain from Heaven,' using revolutionary techniques that define Byzantine architecture to this day.
3. Blue Mosque
   40m · Admission ticket included
"Experience the architectural majesty of the Ottoman Empire's final grand mosque. Built in the early 17th century by Sultan Ahmed I, the Blue Mosque was a declaration of strength, deliberately positioned to stand in magnificent contrast to the nearby Hagia Sophia.

"Step inside a breathtaking cascade of light and color. The mosque earned its common name from the over 20,000 handmade Iznik tiles that adorn its interior walls. Bathed in light filtering through 260 stained-glass windows, the soaring domes create a serene, ethereal atmosphere that defines the height of Ottoman artistry. See the stunning floral and geometric patterns up close a true visual feast."
4. TopkapI Palace
   2h
Topkapı Palace (Topkapı Sarayı) and Harem are likely to have more colourful stories than most of the world's museums put together. From the 1460s to the completion of Dolmabahçe Palace in 1856, it served as the administrative center of the Ottoman Empire, and was the main residence of its sultans. Step behind the gates of power! For nearly 400 years, Topkapı Palace was the secluded, magnificent home and administrative center for the Ottoman Sultans—the men who ruled an empire stretching across three continents. This is not just a museum; it is a meticulously preserved city-within-a-city, offering a rare glimpse into the complex lives of the Imperial Court. We will explore the four main courtyards, each revealing a deeper layer of access and power, moving from the public spaces to the highly restricted areas where only the Sultan was permitted.
Ticket is: 2750 Turkish Liras per person (closed all Tuesday)
5. Basilica Cistern
1h · Admission ticket not included
Mystery Below the City and The Forest of Columns
Marvel at the engineering genius of the Byzantine Empire. Built by Emperor Justinian in 532 AD, this massive underground reservoir was designed to hold 80,000 tons of water for the Great Palace and surrounding area. You will explore the structure supported by 336 marble columns, many of which were recycled from older temples, each column telling its own silent story of Rome and Byzantium.
Search for the secrets at the far corner of the cistern: the infamous Medusa Heads. These two massive stone heads of the mythological Gorgon are placed curiously upside down and sideways at the base of two columns. Your guide will share the competing ancient theories about their origin, their placement, and the superstition that surrounded them. Are they a structural foundation, or a deliberate charm to ward off evil?
6. Grand Bazaar
   1h
   Grand Bazaar The Ultimate Labyrinth
Get lost in the ultimate shopper's labyrinth! The Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı) is one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world. Operating since 1461, this colossal complex houses 61 covered streets and over 4,000 shops.
