After a 45-minute drive from Florence, we'll arrive in the Tuscan countryside near San Miniato, renowned worldwide for its truffles, most notably the prestigious white truffle of San Miniato. This is a genuine experience in the art of truffle hunting, based in respect for the earth.
The experience begins with a briefing that explains the traditions and mindset of the instructor, who is part of a line of San Miniato truffle hunters. You'll also learn about the different kinds of truffles and how to distinguish the real thing from fakes and artificially-scented products.
After the briefing, you'll go on a walk in the woods, accompanied by the star of this truffle hunting show, the dog, as you learn about the natural environment required for truffles to occur and how they propagate. Then, the hunt is on! Your instructor will show how he works with the dog as you witness these amazing animals sniff their way to success. Along the way, you'll hear great stories of legendary truffles and truffle hunters. A home made lunch follows.
After lunch, you'll have the option of visiting Pisa or the Medieval hilltop village of Certaldo.
Transportation is included from Florence and back.
You will be picked up at your Florence lodgings. If you are staying at a hotel with a waiting area for vehicles, your driver will be waiting for you there; otherwise, in the hotel lobby. If you are staying in an apartment, your driver will be waiting for you on the street in the vicinity of your lodgings.
