Hiking at Mount Longonot National Park begins with a steady, dusty trek from the main gate up to the crater rim, offering sweeping views of the Great Rift Valley along the way. Once you reach the rim after about an hour to ninety minutes of uphill climbing, the highlight of the adventure is the full 7.2-kilometer loop trail that completely circles the massive caldera, where you can peer down into the lush green forest growing inside the dormant volcano's crater. The full hike takes around 4 to 5 hours, featuring steep ascents and descents over scree and narrow ridges, including a climb to the highest peak Kilele Ngamia(OteNyo) at 2,780 meters above sea level, making it a rewarding day challenge with opportunities to spot wildlife like zebras, gazelles, and birds along the paths.
