Overview

Narrow streets, exotic courtyards, magnificent passages - these are the hidden Unpacked of Leipzig's city centre. Already in the Middle Ages, there were countless merchants' courts around the market square. Leipzig was the scene of colourful goods fairs : Twice a year, travelling traders from all over Europe came to the city.

Leipzig’s golden age began with the advent of model fairs around 1900. Medieval farms were no longer in demand – the goods were now presented in exhibition halls. In just a few years, impressive buildings shot out of the ground : the Central Fair Palace, Speck's courtyard or the famous Mädler Passage.

Experience Leipzig beyond the famous sights : surprising, charming and authentic. Discover 500 years of trade and change in one of the most beautiful cities in Saxony.
