Overview

This is a private Highland day out designed especially for women, and always led by a female guide. It is perfect if your partner is golfing, whisky tasting, or doing a different excursion, and you would love a day that feels made for you.

It offers a relaxed alternative to busy coach tours, with time for castles, coast, boutique shopping, lunch, local treats and gentle exploring at your own pace.

From Dunrobin Castle and its falconry display to Dornoch’s cathedral, beach, Highland boutiques and Highland charm, the day is thoughtfully planned to feel safe, personal and indulgent, with a guaranteed return to Invergordon in plenty of time for your ship. We can also tailor this around Tee Times and from Dornoch or Tain if you are staying locally.

What to expect

  1. Dornoch
    2h
Enjoy around two hours in the charming Highland town of Dornoch, with time for shopping, lunch and a gentle wander. We can begin with a visit to historic Dornoch Cathedral before you explore at your own pace.

Browse local favourites including Yvonne’s Tartan Boutique and the historic Dornoch Jail for quality Scottish gifts, clothing and keepsakes.

For lunch, there are relaxed options such as Milk & Honey, or we can arrange afternoon tea if preferred. Please let us know in advance so we can plan around you. Lunch not included in tour cost.

Enjoy hot chocolate at Cocoa Mountain or ice cream from Dornoch General Stores. For whisky lovers, Carnegie Whisky Cellars offers optional whisky or gin tastings, subject to availability and not included in the tour price.

If shopping is not your thing, take a peaceful stroll along Dornoch’s beautiful golden sand beach.
  2. Dornoch Cathedral
    15m
Dornoch Cathedral dates back to the 13th century and is central to the town’s religious and legal past. Though the current building has undergone restoration, the grounds may have hosted elements of Janet Horne’s trial, lending a sombre context to its serene beauty.

Its stained glass, tombs, and towering presence stand in contrast to the brutal executions carried out nearby, making this a moving and thought-provoking visit.
  3. Jail Dornoch
    30m
Browse one of Dornoch’s most unique shopping stops, set inside the town’s historic former jail. Today it is home to a beautifully curated collection of Scottish gifts, clothing, homeware and luxury pieces, making it a lovely place to find something special from your Highland day out.
  4. Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve
15m · Admission ticket not included
Enjoy a short 15-minute stop at beautiful Loch Fleet, a peaceful coastal nature reserve known for its scenery and wildlife. We’ll pause here to look out for seals, take photographs and enjoy the views across the water before continuing the tour.
  5. Dunrobin Castle and Gardens
    1h 30m · Admission ticket included
Step into one of the Highlands’ most fairytale-like castles, with its grand turrets, elegant gardens and beautiful coastal setting. On this ladies’ day out, Dunrobin is a relaxed and memorable highlight, with time to explore the castle, wander the gardens, enjoy photographs, and, when available, watch the wonderful falconry display in the castle grounds.
  6. Scottish Highlands
    1h 20m
Enjoy around 1 hour 20 minutes of beautiful Highland scenery as we travel to and from Dunrobin Castle. The drive takes us through charming villages, rolling countryside and coastal views, with time to sit back, relax and enjoy the changing landscapes of the northern Highlands.

Pickup details

We can collect you from any hotel or accommodation in Inverness or the surrounding area, as well as from the cruise ship port in Invergordon.

For cruise ship passengers, once you disembark, please follow the pedestrian route towards Invergordon town centre. As you exit the service base, you will come to a pedestrian crossing. Please cross the road, where I will be waiting for you. It typically takes around one hour for the ship to dock and for passengers to disembark.

There are usually several guides and guests in this area, but I will be holding a board with your name for easy identification. From there, we will take a short walk of approximately 200 yards to reach the vehicle. At the end of your tour, I will drop you back at the same point, allowing you to make your way easily back to the ship.

Please note that if you are arriving by cruise ship, your tour will be tailored to your ship’s schedule. We will plan to return at least one hour before the scheduled departure time to ensure a relaxed and stress free return.
