Experience the beauty of washi paper! This workshop is the most comprehensive one for you to learn washi making. You'll go through the process of making washi paper from scratch.
The washi paper we make in my workshops is all handmade and will last for 1000 years.
Preparation
We'll start with a brief introduction, providing simple materials to explain the history and characteristics of washi paper. You'll participate in the process of making washi paper, starting with the preparation of the raw materials, including the removal of the outer skin of a tree, peeling, and beating.
Making Japanese paper
Next is the papermaking experience. Visitors will experience various techniques such as tamesuki (thick washi), rakusui (washi with patterns made with water), nagashisuki (thin washi), and unryuu (washi with patterns made with washi fibers). (All are A5 size).
At the end of the session, we offer Japanese sweets with "Japanese paper tea" that is not offered elsewhere!
It's perfect for artists who dream of entering the world of washi paper and designers interested in the charm of handmade crafts.
In this workshop, participants will spend six hours making authentic Japanese paper.
