In this workshop, you will be getting your hands on making your very own tenugui, a traditional Japanese hand towel that is also conventionally used as gift wrapping, a souvenir, or even as a decorative piece. You will be using traditional Japanese woodblocks carved by the artist to imprint various different designs to create a pattern, making a one-of-a-kind tenugui.
While doing so, you will get a chance to have a meaningful conversation with an artist who is dedicating her life to pursuing arts here in Kanazawa.
Overall process of the workshop is as follows:
1. Choose from a selection of tenugui towels, each pre-dyed with indigo.
2. Apply dye to woodblock stamps, and press them onto your tenugui to create a design. The stamps feature Kanazawa-themed designs, such as the iconic Kotoji stone lantern from Kenrokuen Garden or the Tsuzumi-mon Gate. Let your creativity flow and create your own personalized towel!
3. Once you finish, your work will be dried and ironed to remove any wrinkles, and then you will get your towel right then and there!
