Overview

History come to life with this tour. Visiting two amazing lakes in a single package it's a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Your safari guide knows better the parks than you can ever imagine, with him you will learn so many things about wild, culture and people during the tour.

Lake Natron is a mineral-rich soda lake in northern Tanzania, at the border with Kenya. It's a breeding ground for hundreds of thousands of lesser flamingos, despite the highly alkaline state of the striking red waters. It sits below Ol Doinyo Lengai, a soaring active volcano in the Rift Valley. Trails lead from the lake to the Engero Sero waterfalls, which flow over craggy rocks into a natural pool

What to expect

Day 1: Road trip to Lake Natron
  1. Lake Natron
    8h
Salt lakes and over 2.5 million Flamingos

This day brings you a road trip through northern Tanzania with the destination Lake Natron. You depart from Arusha after breakfast. The drive can take up to 6 hours and it’s the perfect way to see different sides of Tanzania’s ever-changing landscapes. As you pass the Rift Valley and drive further towards Lake Natron, you will notice the lush green vegetation slowly exchanging for dry, arid and dusty landscapes. The occasional Maasai villages passed en route become dots in the distant scenery. The further north you reach, the more remains of old volcanoes rise around you. Among them is Ol Doinyo Lengai, meaning ‘Mountain of God’ in Maasai dialect. This volcano is one of the few that are still active. When you eventually reach Lake Natron, you might perhaps catch its smoke disappearing in the sky. The night is spent in a comfortable bed at Africa Safari Lake Natron.

You will have a waterfall walking tour and Flamingo lake walk to end your day
Day 2: Safari game drive Serengeti National Park
  1. Serengeti National Park
    8h
Today you have a long and rewarding drive ahead of you, as you make your way from Lake Natron, through the plains and into Serengeti National Park. The road will take you through the Maasai homeland, the only tribespeople permitted to live in the Conservation and protected area.

Traditionally nomadic, the Maasai people are rich in culture and can often be seen herding their cattle in brightly coloured traditional Maasai robes. They live in complete harmony with the earth, using their long-ingrained family knowledge of plant life as a means for survival. Along the drive, you will be able to spot giraffes, zebras and other animals. Prepare to be amazed when you catch your first glimpse of the endless plains of the Serengeti. When you arrive in entrance gate, you will have already had your first taste of game driving and the 14,000+ square kilometers that make up the wonder that is Serengeti National Park. Here you will spot all the wild animals you have been watching in the movies.
Day 3: Safari game drive to Ngorongoro crater
  1. 8h
A lovely day ahead full of chances and new animals to be spotted as you are headed to the Ngorongoro Crater! A visit to this breathtaking natural wonder of the world is an absolute must on any northern circuit safari itinerary. The Ngorongoro Crater is around 3 million years old and it is the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled caldera. Inside the 20 square kilometer volcano is a variety of wildlife which includes the rare and endangered black rhino. Lions, elephants, zebra’s, hyena’s and many others keep him company. Your safari continues through Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Late afternoon you will arrive at lodge for your overnight.
Day 4: Safari game drive Manyara National Park – transfer to Arusha area (JRO, ARK, Town hotel or City centre).
  1. Lake Manyara National Park
    6h
After a good night sleep, today is the ‘day of the lions’. An early breakfast before checking out and after that you will be driven to Lake Manyara National Park itself. The park is approximately 330 square kilometers of which 200 square kilometres makes up the lake itself when water levels are at a maximum. From a sea of pink flamingos as far as the eye can see to bull elephants at close range, Lake Manyara showcases a superb variety of herd animals and birdlife. One of the very special aspects of this park are the tree climbing lions. After exploring this park with its groundwater forest, mid-afternoon you commence the drive back to Arusha, to where it all started; heart and camera full of memories from your African safari adventure. You can do canoeing in this park as well as walking safari with an armed guide (add on).
