When you arrive, your launch attendant will walk you through the river map, answer any questions, and help you get comfortably settled in your kayak. Then you’re free to explore the Colorado River on your own, with up to four hours to paddle, relax, and take in the spectacular scenery of Black Canyon.
For a scenic outing, consider paddling upriver toward Emerald Cave, with plenty of opportunities along the way to look for local wildlife, stop at quiet beaches for a swim or explore the shoreline. You can also hike to a historic overlook for incredible views of the river and canyon.
If you’re looking for a destination to aim for, Emerald Cave is approximately 2 miles upriver from Willow Beach. When sunlight hits the water at just the right angle, the cave takes on its famous brilliant green glow, creating a spectacular setting for photos.
After exploring the cave, enjoy an easy paddle back downstream to Willow Beach. Or simply choose your own route and spend the day discovering this beautiful stretch of the Colorado River at your own pace.
