Overview

Discover western Madeira in a classic 4x4 Jeep with Ricardo Off Road Madeira, a family-run business led by local brothers Ricardo and Vitor. This 8-hour tour combines the coastal scenery of Ribeira Brava, Porto Moniz and Seixal with the highland landscapes of Paul da Serra and the atmospheric forest of Fanal.

Follow old roads and off-road sections with a local driver-guide who shares stories about island life, history and flora. Enjoy scenic photo stops, a lunch stop at a local restaurant and time in Porto Moniz. Bring swimwear and a towel if you wish to swim, subject to local conditions. Lunch is paid separately.

What to expect

  1. Ribeira Brava

    We will stop at a View Point where you have a gorgeous view of Ribeira Brava and Campanario and then we will make our way to our next stop using less busy, narrow, and off-roads. The ride will take around 40 minutes.
  2. Ponta Do Sol
    Pass by
    We will drive trough Ponta do Sol and make our way to our next stop using less busy, narrow, and off-roads. The ride will take around 1 hour. We will also introduce you to some interesting facts of the local history and flora-fauna.
  3. Porto Moniz

    This is where we usually visit one of the local restaurants for lunch. It is also an excellent chance to discover the Natural Swimming Pools of Porto Moniz. You may swim if you wish to do so. And then we will make our way to our next stop using less busy, narrow, and off roads. The ride will take around 15 minutes.
  4. Levada do Paul da Serra

    We will guide you through the local levada walk with amazing views and then we will make our way to our next stop through Paul da Serra at 1400 meters high, using less busy, narrow, and off roads. The ride will take around 60 minutes.
  5. Poca Das Lesmas

    We will visit the natural volcanic black sand beach as well as the natural swimming pools in which you may swim if you wish to do so and then we will make our way to our next stop using less busy, narrow, and off roads. The ride will take around 30 minutes.
  6. Sao Vicente

    On our travel from Seixal to Sao Vicente we will pass by four gorgeous waterfalls, making a stop at one of them and then we will make our way to your hotel or port. The ride will take around 60 minutes.

Pickup details

Free pickup and drop-off in Funchal. Pickup and return outside Funchal are available with the following supplement per booking (not per person): Canico EUR20; Machico EUR25; Ponta de Sao Lourenco EUR30; Ponta do Sol EUR25; Ribeira Brava EUR20; Calheta EUR30. Please provide your accommodation name and full address when booking and contact us through Viator to confirm the pickup arrangements and supplement.

We meet you at the entrance of your accommodation. Look for the Ricardo Off Road Madeira logo on our Jeep. For port pickup, look for the guide holding a board with your name. Please confirm your pickup time with us before the tour.
