We continue our journey to the top of a zigzag path that leads to the ancient upper city of Pisac, whose mythical ruins stand in a spectacular location on a buttress ridge, with agricultural terraces, built by the ancient Incas, winding around the hill in graceful curves, and gorges on either side.
We take a short walk to the ancient city, where we explore its well-built stone dwellings and temples, and enjoy panoramic views up and down the river in the Urubamba Valley. The highly defensible site of Pisac guarded both the Valley and the high jungle pass to the northeast.

Maras Moray Tours

We will continue the visit to the Moray bowls which have a resemblance to a Roman amphitheatre. They are circular in shape and have stairs like terraces that go down to the bottom of the valley. The purpose of these concentric terraces is not fully known. However, it is widely believed that this site was once an agricultural laboratory used by the Incas. Their depth, design, and their orientation with respect to the sun and wind are telltale signs that they have a specific purpose. Due to the different conditions on each level of the terraces, there is a temperature difference from top to bottom.
At 7:00 p.m. we will board the train through the Sacred Valley, arrive at the town of Aguas Calientes and spend a night here.
