Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, located on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, is considered the most diverse forest in Uganda. Home to over 120 mammals, 345 species of birds, 200 species of butterflies and 160 species of trees, Bwindi is one of the richest ecosystems in East Africa. The park contains almost one half of the world’s population of the endangered mountain gorilla, making it an extremely valuable conservation site. You will engage with a community of the Batwa who were former dwellers of the forest (one of Uganda’s oldest tribe).

After breakfast, meet your guides and begin your gorilla tracking experience. The journey, through dense foliage and up steep climbs, is rewarded with the once-in-a-lifetime experience of viewing mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. You will have an opportunity to be within metres of these magnificent animals, sharing in their lives and experiencing their day-to-day activities. Following the trek, return to your accommodation and, if time allows, enjoy a guided afternoon forest or community walk.

Proceed to the northern part of the park and do the boat safari on the Kazinga Channel. The channel is 40km long and a converging place for wildlife (that come to drink) during the dry season. It has the highest number of hippos, has crocodiles, and several water birds. A 2-3 hour cruise will get you magic.

On your morning trek to find the chimps, it’s prevalent for other primates to cross your paths, like the rare L’Hoest’s monkey and red colobus monkey. Other primates you may encounter include the black & white colobus, red-tailed monkey, blue monkey, olive baboon, and grey-cheeked Mangabey. However, your primary goal will be to find a troop of human habituated chimpanzees.
