Overview

Mammoth Hot Springs and Lamar Valley are two of the Upper Loop’s most unforgettable highlights. At Mammoth, travertine terraces glisten like frozen waterfalls, shaped over millennia by shifting hot springs—a living testament to Yellowstone’s volcanic heart. Elk often wander near the village, showing how wild and human spaces coexist.

Lamar Valley, carved by ancient glaciers, is a haven for wildlife. Herds of bison and pronghorn graze the meadows, while wolves and bears roam, creating an untamed scene.

The Upper Loop also features Tower Fall, steaming Calcite Springs, and the ancient Petrified Tree, each revealing Yellowstone’s dramatic past. Pair this with the Lower Loop’s geothermal wonders, such as Old Faithful and Yellowstone Lake, or the alpine beauty of Grand Teton National Park, featuring jagged peaks, clear lakes, and abundant wildlife, for an unforgettable Rocky Mountain experience.

Your adventure begins in Jackson or Teton Village, with early opportunities to spot wildlife and enjoy geological insights into the Tetons and Blacktail Butte. We’ll pause for restroom breaks and plenty of photo opportunities throughout the day.

Our first Yellowstone stop is at Yellowstone Lake, where you’ll learn how the lake connects to the immense magma system beneath the park. Along the Lower Loop, you’ll explore the park’s iconic hydrothermal and geothermal features, including the vibrant Grand Prismatic Spring and world-famous Old Faithful geyser.

The journey continues with a breathtaking visit to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone at Artist Point, followed by a scenic drive through Hayden Valley, home to bison, elk, and possibly bears. The tour concludes with a fascinating stop at the bubbling Mud Volcano area.
Day 2: Upper Loop of Yellowstone Tours including Mammoth Hot Springs and Lamar Valley
  1. Yellowstone National Park
    12h
    Mammoth Hot Springs
Mammoth Hot Springs is formed from calcium carbonate, which shifts and reshapes the landscape about every hundred years. These changes create striking travertine terraces, best viewed from boardwalks. Elk often wander near the historic buildings, but visitors should always keep a safe distance.

    Lamar Valley
In the Upper Loop, Lamar Valley is a wide, picturesque expanse shaped by glaciers that left behind massive boulders. Today, it’s known for lush meadows and abundant wildlife. Herds of bison, elk, and pronghorn graze across the open landscape, drawing predators like grizzly bears and wolves, which are sometimes spotted by visitors.

    Other Upper Loop Highlights
This loop also features Tower Fall, plunging 132 feet into a rocky canyon, and the Calcite Springs Overlook, where geothermal vents release sulfur-rich waters into the Yellowstone River. The Petrified Tree offers a rare glimpse into Yellowstone’s volcanic past.
Day 3: Scenic and Wildlife Guided Tours of Grand Teton National Park
  1. Grand Teton National Park
    5h
    Tour Highlights

    Wildlife Viewing
Just minutes after leaving your hotel in Teton Village or Jackson, WY, the adventure begins. Watch for moose, elk, foxes, coyotes, pronghorn, and bison. With some luck, you may even see grizzly or black bears.

Scenic Stop – Jackson Hole Airport to Moose Junction
Along this stretch, your guide shares the story of the Tetons’ tectonic activity and glacial history, offering insight into how this dramatic landscape was formed.

    Mormon Row
Visit the historic Mormon Row settlement, one of the most photographed locations in the Tetons. Its iconic barns against the mountains make it a perfect stop for pictures.

    Oxbow Bend Turnout
Capture phenomenal views of the Snake River and Teton Range. This spot is a photographer’s dream, with reflections of the peaks often mirrored in the calm water.

    Signal Mountain
