The Karnak Temple
2h · Admission ticket not included
Embark on a journey through time by beginning your day at the Temples of Karnak. Follow your guide along the Avenue of Sphinx, as they enlighten you on the construction of the grand façade. As you enter the complex, witness the impressive legacies left behind by numerous pharaohs, contributing to the ever-expanding complex. With each step, you'll delve deeper into history, with the oldest ruins dating back over 3,000 years.
As you stroll through the Great Court and enter the Great Hypostyle Hall, prepare to be awed by the towering 134 columns, reminiscent of an ancient forest. Finally, at the rear of the complex, you'll discover the sacred lake, where pharaohs and their offerings were purified centuries ago.
Upon completion of the tour, take advantage of the remaining free time to explore the vast complex at your own pace.
Luxor Temple
2h · Admission ticket not included
After the Temples of Karnak, proceed to Luxor Temple, which once stood connected to the former by a two-kilometer long Avenue of Sphinx. The temple's entrance is marked by a section of this avenue, and once inside, you'll be struck by the imposing statues of the renowned warrior pharaoh, Ramses II. Enduring floods, invasions, and thousands of years of exposure to the elements, Luxor Temple stands as a testament to the resilience of the ancient Egyptians.
As a quintessential example of Egyptian temple architecture, the inner walls and columns of Luxor Temple feature intricate hieroglyphics that your guide will assist you in deciphering. Learn about Alexander the Great's place in the temple's history and witness one of the original pair of obelisks, with the other standing prominently at the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
