Overview

Authentic traditional experience
You can fully immerse yourself in the art of Washi papermaking by creating paper from natural fibers of the Kozo（a plant used for making Japanese paper）, following time-honored techniques.

Learn directly from a master craftsman
Under the guidance of an experienced artisan, you’ll gain hands-on knowledge, including how to skillfully use a Sudare and other traditional tools.

Beginner-friendly and supportive
Even if it’s your first time, step-by-step instruction ensures a smooth and enjoyable experience, allowing you to confidently create your own unique sheet of Washi.

What to expect

Experience the traditional Japanese art of hand-making paper (Washi). You will use fibers from the bark of the Kozo （a plant used for making Japanese paper） tree to create your own paper. Under the direct guidance of a master craftsman, you will learn authentic papermaking techniques using a traditional "Sudare" bamboo screen. We will guide you gently through every step, so even beginners can join with confidence.

・This course can be booked for groups of two or more.
・Participants must be able to work while standing.
・Your arms will get wet, so please wear clothes with sleeves that can be rolled up.
・Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting wet.
・You may feel some itchiness when touching the paper materials, but this usually improves after washing them off.
