As you wander through the ancient artefacts, hear the awe-inspiring story of Hatshepsut who ruled ancient Egypt in the position of pharaoh for 23 years, an incredible feat for a woman in those times. You’ll also hear about Queen Tiye, another formidable queen – mother of the ‘heretic’ Pharaoh Akhenaten and the grandmother of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.

Our final stop is to the museum of a national icon of Egyptian music. Did you know that Egypt had a singer who was an influence on Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Bono and Youssou N’Dour? This was Umm Kolthoum, who sold 80 million records worldwide. When she died in 1975, around four million Egyptians lined the streets to mourn her death. This lovely little museum honours her life and gives you the chance to learn more about this extraordinary woman.
